Last November 3, 2017, SLCM Iatros conducted its first photography workshop at Room 907 entitled “In Focus”. It was intended for both budding and seasoned photographers to help them gain a better understanding of the craft and explore the different techniques used by more experienced photographers.
The three-lecture workshop was conducted by Rajiv Hans Menghrajani, freelance photographer since 2014 and head of the Student Council’s Arts and Promotions Committee. He focused on the technical aspects of photography and photo editing. Vince Ivan Camangeg, Chief Photographer of Iatros, covered composition styles.
Mr. Menghrajani opened with basic techniques in handling camera settings such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance. This was followed by Mr. Camangeg’s lecture on “Composition” wherein he talked about the rule of thirds, leading lines and, negative space by exhibiting his own photos and photos of his favorite photographers namely, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Irvin Pen, and Fan Ho. In addition, he stated that photography served as his creative outlet since he was in first year college.
Mr. Menghrajani closed with a tutorial on Photo Editing using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. At the end of each lecture, the speakers opened the floor to questions where they took the opportunity to share personal tips with each of the specific concerns raised by the participants. They also encouraged everyone to practice as it is one of the main keys to excelling in photography.
