To express their gratitude for their outgoing president and dean, the St. Luke’s College of Medicine community held a testimonial dinner for Dr. Brigido L. Carandang at the Penthouse Lobby last September 13.

The SLCM Student Council organized the event where they presented a compilation of video messages from the school’s former students, current batch and organization leaders as well as the staff of the College.

On behalf of all the administration officials, Dr. Malaya Santos, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, presented the William H. Quasha trophy to Dr. Carandang for his 12 years of deanship, dedication on academic excellence and innovations on medical education.

Written on the trophy is a quote from Barack Obama, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” Another quote is inscribed on the said trophy, this one came from Dr. Carandang himself: “Be happy. Enjoy your education because when you enjoy the challenge and the process of learning, you’d be alright.”

As a response, Dr. Carandang said, “Your responsibility is to pass this [the legacy] on to those who will follow you.” When he was interviewed after the event, he described his deanship as the best 12 years of his life.

Special performances also adorned the event. Danielle Pua performed a spoken word poem which was then was followed by song performances from the SLCM Chorale, Dr. Tomas Joaquin C. Mendez and Dr. Derrick Bert B. Fuentes.
