Last May 20, the SLCM student council outreach committee led this year’s culminating Grand Outreach activity at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA).

In partnership with the DENR-NCR, the activity aimed to look and give back to Mother Nature by cleaning up the coastal area. This was in line with their May-long celebration dubbed the “Month of the Ocean”. The activity initially included a mangrove planting activity but it did not push through because it was not the best time to plant them.

After the clean-up, the students participated in an eco-tour. This included a bird watching activity and a mangrove site tour. Based on the participants’ feedback and the experience itself, the incoming outreach committee decided to continue this tradition into the coming academic year.

Volunteers lined the shoreline, in each hand, a sack full of debris.
